Hello my name is Jodie Knowles-Baker (aka Poppy Baker)

I am 16 years old and i go to Robertsbridge Community College

I have had a passion for drama/performing arts since I was small and only seriously went into it five years ago, after I was told that my 4 and a half years of martial arts meant that I could audition for a short film that involved a number fight scenes. I have also gathered a lot of experience making educational videos for use in schools.

I have also done a lot of stage work and joined as many local amateur dramatic societies as was possible.

A year after that I got involved with RESPOND ACADEMY, through my friend Solomon Curtis, and soon went on to producing a talent show for young people in the area names Future Talent.

On the week of the 20th I have also been invited to France to perform with 9 others at a French Arts Festival

My name is Solomon Curtis, I am a singer/songwriter who recently last year ran the project future talent, an opportunity for young artists in music and dance for young people in the form of a competition. I set it up with Jodie Knowles Baker and we had a fantastic final night with a full audience. Here is the trailer for the final night…

I will be performing again soon, however a couple of years ago also did a michael jackson act, where we performed in 2010 to over 500 people at st leonards festival… video below

Respond Education

Respond Academy , Jc and Pablo McFee devised an Alternative Educational
Programme in 2007 to work Specifically for young people aged 14-16+ .

Using a flexible programme using the Arts,music,mixed media and achievable goals to
date has achieved incredible on going results especially for pupils formerly thought to be
unteachable .

By allowing these same students access and involvement to the numerous community
projects and events has resulted in further integration into the very groups they were
formally excluded from .To date the results have exceeded all expectations and have had
far reaching results for the benefit of the whole community.

Hello! My name is Devon and I am a singer/songwriter.
I perform in a duo with Jerri-leigh Brodie, and we both have a really strong passion for singing songs and writing them, too!

I am a singer/songwriter and am currently playing, writing and performing with my band One Bright Life (www.facebook.com/onebrightlife) in and around the Brighton area. I have been writing my own songs, accompaniments, melodies and lyrics for the past 10 years in a variety of differing styles and so have a large pool of experience from which to draw. Respond Academy Community

Respond Academy is a Youth Led organization that has made a huge impact on the lives of lots of young people in Hastings ,St Leonards & Rother in East Sussex.

Respond started up in 2003 doing a few events in the Community and then it just grew .BY 2004 Pablo & Jc hired St Peters Church on a weekly basis. It started with just 20 young people withing a month it was 80 + and that’s where ,we as Peer Trainers started.

The workshops just evolved, Dance , Dj. DSinging, Filming ART & lots of munchies in between .

This became extremely successful more and more people were joining in with the workshops.

The next minute Pablo & Jc were being asked if WE could do performances in our local community.

Respond was to big we had to find bigger premises we moved to Britannia Enterprise.

2006 we were now even bigger we moved to Silchester Mews based in St Leonards on Sea and RESPOND ACADEMY was Bourne;

We were now doing the Most Incredible Events & Shows that You will have to Follow on our WEBSITE To take it all in .

As a Peer mentor in Respond Academy I would attend meetingsand explain about the things we do and how we could work together and change the community .

The most important thing for me [Gemma] is that RESPOND ACADEMY is Still a Youth Led Project and we are even stronger and doing even more amazing projects in 2012 Watch This Space .

Hastings Appliance Shop in BOHEMIA RD St Leonards on SEA

We needed a cooker as our old one was broken .

We asked a few different places if they would Donate us a cooker.

Hastings Appliance Shop in Bohemia came back to us.

They have given us this beautiful Electric Cooker with A Double Oven,

Hello, My name is Jerri-leigh Brodie.
I’ve been working at respond for over a year now and through the time i’ve been here
i have developed an intrest in writing and performing music.
This here is one of the first songs i’d written with my singing partner Devon King.

Devon and I are known as Devonerri, we perform around Hastings.we are a vocal duo. our instruments vary from piano, ukeale and guitar.

As much as I love performing with Devon, I have recently discoverd that I also love to
sing on my own. When on my own I tend to sing songs I have written myself or covers of old folky songs.
for example here is one of my original songs.

my names Adam fisher a grime/rap artist, I am 17 years old and have a passion for music.

I perform and write my own material and have performed at many events in east sussex.
I have been a member at Respond academy for approx 2 years and i have devolped my own unique style.

I was to nervous to express my work at the start, but i have gained my confidence and i have realized that

i feel I have to express what i feel through my writing, recording and producing.

I now also produce as well as writing and recording. i havent stopped with music and it has become my main dicipline

and structure of my life. I have a silver arts award and am currently working on my gold.
I also do art and will be having my own exhibition shortly, watch this space.

Rebecca Youssefi

I am an artist living and working in South East, England.

My interest is peace and my artwork is the way that I express this.

I paint what is not seen with the eyes. Often, my work speaks of the fundamental codes which form the world we occupy, like DNA or the geometry of nature. Throughout the history of humanity, symbols and codes have served as a language of communication from one person to another, from one time and place to another. I make work to communicate with the subconscious essence of a person, rather than the conscious mind. By taking the role of a scribe I translate between the physical and non physical.

My background of Celtic and Persian ancestry may be of influence in my interest in shamanistic traditions, which are inherently important in my work.

I hope for my work to exist as doorways to alternate states of perception through colour, line and form. They could be entrances to other worlds and different dimensions, or perhaps a space for freedom of thought and fantasy.

30 codes

These codes are 30 out of a series of 46 that I made in 2008. They are codes and keys which activate and unlock what is laying dormant within us. The process of their production is as important as the actual pieces. To create these drawings I begin by meditating (a daily practise for me) and whilst in a meditative state I draw the codes, not directly from myself I believe, but from other dimensions where they exist as life forms in their own right. In the creation of these codes I would describe myself as a scribe, giving them 2-dimensional physical form. Each code has it’s own individual identity and role, much like human beings. I have many more of these drawings, which I am still presently making, but for now I choose to present these 30.
